Bonsall High School: Small Learning Community

Bonsall Unified School District
Located on the Norman Sullivan Middle School campus, this infill project required a site specific innovative concept to overcome significant site challenges.

Designed to serve as an interim high school for a newly unified District, this 18,100 square-foot, two-level Small Learning Community (SLC) houses eight learning studios and two science labs. The building’s site is extremely small, located between two existing classroom buildings, a utility easement and a steep, sloped hillside.

S+W’s custom design solution exceeded expectations by creating a unique, Small Learning Community featuring a common Collaboration Space surrounded by four Learning Studios and a Science Lab on each of the two levels. In addition, interior partitions between the studios and common collaboration spaces have glass panels, instilling shared natural light and a greater visual transparency for staff and students.
